Cet article retrace l\u2019<strong>histoire fascinante de la rade de Marseille<\/strong>, de ses origines \u00e0 son r\u00f4le contemporain.<\/p>\n<h2>Les origines et l&#8217;Antiquit\u00e9<\/h2>\n<p>La rade de Marseille doit une grande partie de sa renomm\u00e9e \u00e0 la fondation de la <strong>cit\u00e9 grecque de Massalia<\/strong> (aujourd&#8217;hui Marseille) vers<strong> 600 av. J.-C.<\/strong> par des colons venus de Phoc\u00e9e, en Asie Mineure. Attir\u00e9s par la configuration protectrice de la rade, les Phoc\u00e9ens y \u00e9tablirent un comptoir commercial. Cette installation permit \u00e0 Massalia de devenir rapidement un<strong> centre de commerce maritime prosp\u00e8re<\/strong>, reliant l&#8217;Orient et l&#8217;Occident. Pendant l&#8217;Antiquit\u00e9, la rade de Marseille servait de point de rencontre pour les marchands grecs, \u00e9trusques et romains. La cit\u00e9 exportait du vin, de l\u2019huile d\u2019olive, et des produits manufactur\u00e9s, et importait des mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res et des produits exotiques. La position strat\u00e9gique de la rade en faisait \u00e9galement un<strong> site militaire de premier ordre<\/strong>, servant de <strong>base navale pour prot\u00e9ger les routes commerciales<\/strong> en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<h2>Le Moyen \u00c2ge et la Renaissance<\/h2>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la chute de l&#8217;Empire romain, Marseille et sa rade subirent de <strong>nombreuses invasions<\/strong>, notamment celles des Wisigoths, des Francs, et des Sarrasins. Chaque invasion entra\u00eena des p\u00e9riodes de d\u00e9clin et de reconstruction. Au <strong>Moyen \u00c2ge<\/strong>, la ville retrouva peu \u00e0 peu son r\u00f4le commercial gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la<strong> protection des seigneurs locaux et des comtes de Provence<\/strong>. \u00c0 la <strong>Renaissance<\/strong>, Marseille connut un <strong>renouveau \u00e9conomique et culturel<\/strong>. La rade, avec ses infrastructures portuaires, fut modernis\u00e9e pour accueillir de plus grands navires. La construction de nouvelles fortifications, telles que le <strong>Fort Saint-Nicolas<\/strong> et le<strong> Fort Saint-Jean<\/strong>, renfor\u00e7a la d\u00e9fense de la rade contre les incursions \u00e9trang\u00e8res. La ville devint \u00e9galement un centre de diffusion des <strong>id\u00e9es humanistes<\/strong> et des <strong>innovations techniques<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pour autant, l&#8217;\u00e9poque moderne et l&#8217;industrialisation massive qui allait en r\u00e9sultait aller apporter son lot d&#8217;aventures \u00e0 la rade ensoleill\u00e9e du port de Marseille.
